Mary McNally - State Representative, House District 49
The 2011 Legislative Session is well underway. During this 62nd Legislative Session, I am serving on three House Committees: Tax; Local Government and Federal Relations, Energy, and Telecommunications. It is challenging session in the House during this session, but I am grateful to be here to be a voice for my constituents and the citizens of Billings. This session is about protecting priorities, including adequate funding for education and health and human services, and preventing outrageous assaults on our fundamental rights. I have been working hard to defeat many bills to roll back important clean energy initiatives, including repeal of the Montana renewable Power Production and Rural Economic Development Act which creates renewable energy standards and another to amend the Montana Constitution from ‘protecting our right to a clean and healthful environment’ to ‘promoting a healthful and economically productive environment.’ As well as, preventing assaults on voter rights, including moves to do away with late voter registration, reducing the number of those eligible to vote in our elections. I believe that legislation that including radical cuts to essential core services, including: health, social services, and education must be defeated. This includes bills such as House Bill 1 which will cut funding for all state agencies by five percent and House Bill 316 that would reduce social services and education funding by $100 million. I am grateful and proud to represent House District 49 and will continue to fight for my constituents and the citizens of Billings and Montana.
